College GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours, where quality points are the grade value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0) times the course's credit hours. Pass (P), No Pass (NP) and Withdrawn (W) classes are not counted.

Worked example

Four classes: A in a 3-hour class, B in a 4-hour class, C+ in a 3-hour class and a W in a 3-hour class.

College GPA: 30.9 ÷ 10 hours = 3.09.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my college GPA?

Multiply each grade's points by the course's credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total hours that count toward GPA.

Do Pass/Fail classes affect GPA?

A Pass does not change your GPA but usually earns credit. A fail on a Pass/Fail course is treated differently by each school: some count it as an F, others do not. Check your policy.

Does a W hurt my GPA?

No. A withdrawal is not calculated into GPA, but it can affect financial aid progress and appears on your transcript.

How do I include a repeated class?

Many schools replace the old grade with the new one. To mimic that, remove the first attempt from the list. Others average both attempts, so keep both.

How do I add my previous semesters?

Add a semester for each term, or use the cumulative GPA calculator if you already know your GPA and credits.

Is a 4.33 A+ used in college?

Some colleges do. Switch the A+ setting to 4.33 if your school does.
